Fashion Week opens in Paris with catwalks and masks
Paris - Paris Fashion Week opened its doors on Monday with the Nigerian Kenneth Ize's show to present the Spring / Summer collections, before an audience wearing a mask and with sanitary control at the entrance. bolts.answerhop
"This is a new awakening for me," Ize told AFP at
the Palais de Tokyo, fashion headquarters this week in the French capital.
Sponsored by model Naomi Campbell, Ize devised a parade in
which green, fuchsia, and turquoise blue inspire freshness and youth, under the
jazz chords of a saxophonist.
Their dresses are adorned with fringes, and the clothes are
made of aso oke, a multi-striped, multi-colored fabric created by the Yoruba
people of West Africa.
Ize is a native of Lagos and graduated from the Faculty of
Applied Arts in Vienna, where he grew up. But his inspiration continues to be
the rich textile heritage of his country, with a contemporary cut.
For the first time, Ize dared for her haute couture
collection with the traditional wedding dress. An austere cut, a long train,
adorned with golden details.
After Ize, they planned to parade Weinsanto by Victor
Weinsanto, who returns to the Parisian calendar, and the French Marine Serre,
avant-garde and eco-responsible, with a virtual parade.
The Serre collection is recreated in recycled materials. She
is not afraid to present boots and suits made from dish towels, forks that turn
into jewelry, and long dresses made from handkerchiefs.
More than 30 parades
Of the 97 houses registered in the official calendar of this
Fashion week that ends on October 5, a third opted for the face-to-face shows.
But contrary to London, where the mask was absent,
fashionistas had to wear theirs.
Dior, Chanel, Hermès, Louis Vuitton will be back on the
catwalks. Givenchy will present the first show by its American artistic
director, Matthew Williams, which brings a "street" touch to the
historic French house.
The Balenciaga firm, which dressed Kim Kardashian in a full
black dress last week at the Met gala in New York, also brings its fans
together with a "real" show.
Saint Laurent, the first major firm that left the official
calendar during the Covid-19 crisis, to show its dissatisfaction against the
frenzy of fashion weeks, returns on its usual schedule on Tuesday.
But among the big absentees is Celine, led by creator Hedi
Slimane, who considers fashion weeks obsolete, and Stella McCartney, the firm
of luxury giant LVMH.
Off-White, the American brand Virgil Abloh, who also handles
Louis Vuitton men's collections, left the calendar several seasons ago.
A tribute parade to the Israeli-American Alber Elbaz,
artistic director of Lanvin, who died due to Covid-19 in April, will close the
Parisian event.
And the Palazzo Galliera, a fashion museum, celebrates 100
years of Vogue Paris with an opening gala on October 2, while the eccentric
Thierry Mugler will be the subject of a tribute exhibition from September 30
